Weekend Rider

This past weekend was AWESOME! I left campus at about 3:15 on Friday, and drove straight to Flat Rock Ranch, which from Austin is about a 2 hour drive through the hill country. It was a gorgeous drive with the sun out and the wildflowers in full bloom.

When I got to the campsite, my buddies had already set up camp, so I changed my shoes and we got on our bikes and hit the trail. We got a two hour ride in that night! Talk about the right way to start the weekend!

After a good ride and some grilled bratwurst, I didn’t have any trouble sleeping. We went to bed at about 9:30, and I slept straight through until 8:30 the next morning. It was just awesome. The temperature was perfect, the stars were out, and there was a nice breeze.

Saturday morning we ate Powerbars for breakfast and were riding by 9:30. We got a good three hour ride in, then came back to camp for sandwiches and a nap. We dinked around for a few hours, doing some minor bike maintenance, practicing bunny hops, and a lot of joking around. Then at about 4, a few of us went back out for another two hour ride. It was just awesome.

I really enjoyed riding Flat Rock Ranch. The trails aren’t too technical, which means that most of the time you can fly through the turns which is just a blast. There were lots of climbs, which is great for training, and not too many obstacles like stumps or rock ledges that have to be overcome. And, there are plenty of downhill sections, so we got to fly a little, too. 23mph on a trail will get some adrenaline flowing!

Everyone else stayed until Sunday morning, but I had too much homework to get done, so I came back on Saturday night. It was still totally worth it. I totally want to go back before it gets too hot.
