ACL Day Two

Today was day two of the ACL festival. We decided this morning that this would be a light day for us, so we were only there for a few hours. But man were those some great hours. First, we found all of our friends within minutes of walking into the park, which just made it more fun. I got to visit with B-Dub while we were hearing the shows, which was cool.

The first band that we saw is one of my favorites, and I had been wanting to see them for years. Built to Spill is handily my favorite show so far. Their music is mesmerizing, several of their songs have two guitars playing separate harmony lines at the same time, and its a well documented fact that I LOVE quality guitar music. Plus, they played several of my favorite songs. And, their entire performance was perfect. If I’m ever within 200 miles of them when they’re on tour, I plan to go out of my way to see them.

Next, The Frames played on one of stages that was facing us, so we didn’t even have to get up. We just turned our chairs and the party continued. They’re good, I really enjoyed them. I didn’t know any of their songs, heck I hadn’t even heard of them. But, I did like them. I hope Austin radio starts playing them soon.

And our final show of the day was Deathcab for Cutie. Once again, we didn’t have to move, because they played on the same stage as Built to Spill. I’ve known about DfC for a few months, but I hadn’t heard any of their stuff. I like them, and they put on a great show, it was really fun to see them.

We left after that, opting to skip Oasis and save our energy for tomorrow’s lineup. I can’t wait, it’ll start with Doves at 2:30. We’ll also catch The Bravery, Bob Mould Band, and Coldplay. I’m torn between Wilco and Franz Ferdinand, so I’m not sure which one we’ll see.
