I’ve been doing a fair amount of riding lately. Sunday I went out to Muleshoe to ride with a few friends. The trail was awesome, I really had a good time. And today, for the second time in a month, a friend and I biked to work. It feels really good to be getting into shape.

I’ve promised a couple of friends that I’d enter some mountain bike races this coming fall, so all of this riding is partially for fun, but mostly in hopes that I’ll be competitive when I’m racing. Even if I’m not, it’ll be fun. My bike is going to need some upgrades before this fall, too, but I haven’t yet started on them. I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ve been keeping up with music lately, too. Last night Micah and I went to the Elephant Room to see the Jeff Hellmer Quartet. Man were they awesome. My interest in jazz is growing.

And two of my favorite bands release CD’s this week, also. Coldplay just released X&Y, and the White Stripes released Get Behind Me Satan, both on Tuesday. I’ve only heard a few select tracks from each CD, but it sounds like I’m going to like both of them.

I was surprised to see that the New York Times wrote a scathing review of X&Y. You can like or dislike them, but Coldplay is definitely NOT “the most insufferable band of the decade.” That title is reserved for Kelly Clarkson. White Stripes, on the other hand, are getting great press. I heard a great interview with Jack & Meg White today on Fresh Air. Apart from their great music, I really like Jack White.
