Splurge

Last night plans with some other couples fell through, so my girlfriend & I had an evening to ourselves. It was awesome. We went to Zen (one of my local favorites) for dinner. And then, music shopping.

The problem with having an iPod is that you have to have music to put on it. I have ~100 CD’s, but that isn’t very much for a 30GB iPod. All of my music, even the stuff that I NEVER listen to, consumes less than 20% of the drive capacity. So I figured I need some new tunes.

We both had Best Buy gift certificates from Christmas that we hadn’t used yet, so after dinner we went shopping. It was awesome. We bought nine CD’s altogether, I bought five CD’s, and she got four. Here’s what I got.

This goes directly against a rule that I’ve had for years. Never buy more than one CD at a time. Because when you get two or more at a time, you listen to all of them, and none of them get your full attention. You end up not appreciating any of them as much as you would have if you had purchased them one at a time.

Since then I’ve kinda been in sensory overload. What do I listen to first? What’s my favorite song on each CD? What tracks do I need to add to playlists? I know, I know, I need to put the iPod down and take a deep breath.

I’m going to have to stop worshipping my iPod soon. There, I said it. I’ve been worshipping my iPod. Its just that this thing is way more cool than I thought it would be. Everyone should have one. Truth be told, its actually so cool that I think I want to try a Mac. If they get MP3 players this well, maybe they do a good job with computers, too.

Listening to Audioslave, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Robbie Seay Band and Stone Temple Pilots.

  1. Dude, great purchase on OK Computer! That is one of my all time favorite alternative albums. You’ve got some catching up to do.

  2. Believe it or not, that was part of my motivation for getting it. I almost got Pete Yorn, too, but I could only get so many at once.

  3. Funny, I’m listening to OK Computer right now. I’ve had it for years and the more I hear it, the more I love it. Hands down the best album of the ’90s. Incidentally, Brad Mehldau (jazz pianist) does a number of covers from that album including a very cool “Paranoid Android”

  4. Yeah, its my favorite of all the stuff I’ve gotten so far. I really like Paranoid Android.
